‘String Theory’

With collaboration at its heart, this piece brings together two artists; one musician, Dominic Stokes, and one choreographer, Jordan James Bridge, each with an extraordinarily unique approach to their respective artforms. Drawing inspiration from one specific piece: ‘fratres’ by Arvo Pärt, Stokes will perform a new composition alongside dance artist Leila Wright in this moving piece of music.

Choreographer / Direction: Jordan James Bridge

Dance Artist: Leila Wright

Musician: Dominic Stokes playing a new commission with inspiration from Arvo Pärt ‘Fratres’

Lighting Design: Jordan James Bridge

Premiere: Ballet Nights, June 2025

Commissioned by Ballet Nights, generously supported by the Abderrahim Crickmay Charity Settlement

Jordan James Bridge is something of a serial Ballet Nights choreographer, as compere Jamiel Devernay Laurence put it. Well, when his output is as impressive as String Theory, why not?
— Seeing Dance, David Mead
Wright’s fluidity of gentle movement possessed a magnetic polarisation with Stokes, culminating with her spiralling into the darkness.
— BachTrack, Graham Watts
Wright occasionally looks borderline inhuman in her sinuous movements, something exaggerated by the overhead lighting.
